The border between Guinea and Sierra Leone has officially reopened following the successful conclusion of Guinea’s presidential elections, authorities have confirmed.
Security officials reported a calm and stable atmosphere along the border throughout the electoral period, from the commencement of voting to its conclusion. No security threats or incidents were recorded, and the process was described as peaceful and well-coordinated.
Eligible Guinean voters were allowed to cross the border under strict security supervision to participate in the elections. After casting their ballots, voters returned safely to their respective communities without disruption.
Speaking in an interview, the Officer Commanding of INTERPOL at the Gbalamuya Customs Border, Inspector Yasenneh, said the border was temporarily closed for one day as a precautionary security measure during the elections. He explained that restrictions were placed on vehicles, motorbikes, and the movement of goods, while voters were permitted to cross solely for electoral purposes.
Inspector Yasenneh confirmed that the voting process was completed successfully and without any security concerns. He added that the border has now resumed full operations, with all border activities restored.
“Vehicles, motorbikes, goods, and passengers are being thoroughly checked and monitored before crossing,” he said, noting that comprehensive security measures remain in place to sustain peace and ensure continued stability at the border.
Residents living around the Gbalamuya Customs Border, including those along bypass routes and surrounding communities, have expressed satisfaction with the performance of the security forces. Many praised the effective coordination and vigilance that helped maintain peace and order throughout the election period.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continued surveillance and cooperation to preserve calm and security across all border crossing points.
