The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has concluded a three-day follow-up engagement for SierraSeat pilot champions, aimed at advancing the institution’s digital transformation journey. SierraSEAT is the new information system software that the ASSL Auditors will be using to do their work. This software will replace the manual paperbase system of auditing
The three-day session was held at the Empowerment Hall on the 10th Floor of the Freetown City Council Building from 21st – 23rd January, 2026.
The engagement seeks to systematically gather feedback from SierraSeat Champions based on their real-world experiences, using the digital audit system in the field.
Addressing the participants during the session, the Deputy Auditor-General (DAG) Mr. Aiah Gbondo-Tugbawa welcomed the team from the African Orgaisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) and SierraSEAT Champions. He underscored the importance of the exercise, noting that the feedback will be critical in refining the system to meet the needs of auditors.
Mr. Tugbawa explained that discussions would focus on how easy the SierraSEAT system is to be used, how well it supports audit planning and execution, its effectiveness in fieldwork, documentation and reporting, its performance under real working conditions, and whether it aligns with ASSL’s audit methodologies and compliance requirements. He further noted that this engagement provides SierraSEAT Champions with the opportunity to shape the final version of the system before it is rolled out across the entire institution.
He encouraged participants to be open, honest, and constructive in their feedback, urging them to highlight both strengths and weaknesses of the system. He expressed gratitude to AFROSAI-E for their continued technical support and partnership.
Mr. Osman Mansaray, the ASSL ICT Manager noted that this follow up engagement will empower the Champions with the basic knowledge on the operations of the SierraSEAT software, which auditors of the ASSL will be using. He further stated that the Champions will be used as trainers for all auditors. They are also required to give feedback on the operations of the SierraSEAT software.
The SierraSEAT initiative represents a major step in modernising ASSL’s operations, ensuring greater efficiency, transparency, and accountability in public sector auditing.
