Guinea, Sierra Leone border has remained calm and secure following the temporary closure of the Guinean side of the frontier in response to Guinea’s ongoing presidential elections.
The border closure took effect on Saturday, 27 December 2025, at exactly 23:00 hours. Since then, security authorities on both sides have reported a peaceful and stable atmosphere, with no incidents recorded at the crossing points.
Under the temporary measures, the movement of vehicles, motorbikes, and goods across the border has been strictly restricted, only Guinean citizens officially participating in the voting process have been permitted to cross, under close security supervision.
Joint security forces have been fully deployed around the Gbalamuya customs area to monitor activities, and ensure the maintenance of law and order. The heightened security presence has contributed to sustained calm and uninterrupted electoral movements, as eligible Guinean voters continue to cross the border solely for voting purposes.
In Sierra Leone’s Kambia District, one designated voting center has been established at the Arabic School near Bangalie Mosque to serve Guinean voters from across the northwest region, the voting exercise is being conducted under tight security coverage, closely monitored by the Local unit commander of Kambia police division (CSP), Mr. Sao Vandy.
According to the manager of the voting center, polling commenced promptly at 6:00 a.m. and is scheduled to close at 6:00 p.m, the process has so far proceeded peacefully, with security personnel closely monitoring voter movements to ensure safety, order, and stability throughout the day.
Authorities have confirmed that all necessary security measures remain in place as the elections continue, as of the time of reporting, the Guinea Sierra Leone border remains quiet, with no signs of tension or potential security threats.
