(FCC) to remove all unauthorized billboards and posters
The Freetown City Council (FCC) has announced that, starting Friday, May 9, 2025, it will remove all unauthorized billboards, posters, banners, signage, and other advertising materials across the municipality.
In a press release issued on May 5, 2025, the FCC cited Statutory Instrument No. 4 of 2010 and the City Council’s Statutory Nuisance Bylaws, 2010, stating that the operation complies with directives from the central government through the Ministry of Information and Civic Education issued earlier this month.
The release urged, all individuals and entities with unauthorized installations must remove them immediately or contact the FCC Billboards and Banners Unit to pay for and obtain necessary permits per our guidelines. It highlighted that permit revenues are vital for funding essential council services.
The FCC will collaborate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sierra Leone Police, and Sierra Leone Roads Authority to execute the removals, the council is also working with the government’s Inter-agency Technical Team to review regulations, aiming to restore public order and reduce nuisances within Freetown.
