As part of efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships for the implementation of its Five-Year Strategic Development Plan (2026–2030), the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) paid a partnership visit to Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

The engagement forms part of the Managing Director’s vision of transforming SALWACO into a functional and financially viable institution capable of delivering sustainable water and sanitation services across Sierra Leone.

Speaking during the meeting, the Managing Director of SALWACO, Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi provided an overview of the company’s mandate, operational areas, and ongoing initiatives. She also highlighted the five thematic areas of SALWACO’s Strategic Development Plan and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to effectively delivering on its mandate while supporting the Government of Sierra Leone’s development agenda, the National Medium-Term Development Plan, and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal Six (SDG 6) by 2030.

She noted that SALWACO’s Five-Year Strategic Development Plan provides a clear roadmap for institutional growth, improved service delivery, infrastructure development, revenue enhancement, and strategic partnerships.

In her presentation, the Planning Manager, Chrisla Alberta Koroma, outlined the key components of the Strategic Development Plan and highlighted priority areas where development partners could support SALWACO in achieving its strategic objectives and delivering sustainable impact in the water and sanitation sector.

Responding on behalf of the CRS Country Director, Mr. Arthur Chinsman-Williams, Coordination and Visualization Platform Program Manager, commended SALWACO for developing a comprehensive Strategic Development Plan and expressed CRS’s interest in strengthening collaboration with the institution.

Mr. Chinsman-Williams explained that CRS is a charitable organization that has been working closely with numerous local organizations and key sector institutions, including the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, the National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA), and the Guma Valley Water Company.

He further disclosed that CRS is currently implementing the Digital Coordination and Visualization Project, which seeks to enhance coordination, planning, and data-driven decision-making within the WASH sector. He noted that CRS would be pleased to pay a courtesy visit to SALWACO and encouraged the company to prepare a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a formal partnership framework between the two institutions.

According to him, such a partnership would create opportunities for CRS to support selected goals and priority interventions outlined in SALWACO’s Strategic Development Plan. He assured the SALWACO delegation that the outcomes of the engagement and proposed action points would be communicated to the CRS Country Director for further consideration and possible action.

The engagement underscores SALWACO’s commitment to building and strengthening strategic partnerships that will contribute to improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services for communities across Sierra Leone.
