A cross section of Women Power Movement on tour of the Law Courts Building in Freetown

As part of the Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda’s commitment to making the Judiciary more transparent and accessible to the public, one of Sierra Leone’s local women’s empowerment organisations, Women’s Power, comprising over fifty young girls from across the country,  visited the Main Law Courts Building  on the 14th August, 2026 on a conducted tour.

Madam Regina Peters-Moore, Executive Director of Women’s Power, expressed delight at being granted access to tour the entire Main Law Courts Building, describing it as a significant opportunity for the organisation, which was founded over fifteen years ago.

“Women’s Power Hour is an organisation that mentors women and young girls with life skills, spiritual teachings and creativity for self-empowerment, with the aim of uplifting young girls after completing high school,” Madam Peters-Moore said.

She explained that the organisation has, for several years, conducted annual holiday skills-training programmes for young girls across the country. The programmes cover career guidance, skills development, entrepreneurship and personal hygiene.

Madam Peters-Moore further noted that, despite operating without donor support, the organisation has supported and empowered thousands of young girls, helping them to become self-reliant and productive members of society.

She said the delegation comprised forty-one (41) young girls and five mentors, all of whom were visiting the Main Law Courts Building for the first time.

The delegation expressed appreciation for the warm reception and was particularly impressed by the serene environment and the cleanliness of the courtrooms.

The visitors were received by Aruna Haku, who accompanied them to the office of the Deputy Master and Registrar, Lloyd Hindolo Jusu. The Deputy Master and Registrar briefed the delegation on the structure of the Judiciary and explained the roles and responsibilities of the Master and Registrar.

During the tour, the delegation visited several sections of the Judiciary, including the Civil and Criminal Registries. They also visited the Chambers of the Honourable Chief Justice, where they were received and addressed by the Confidential Secretary, Miss Emilda Stronge.

The visit forms part of the Judiciary’s broader commitment to promoting public understanding of its work and ensuring that members of the public, particularly young people, have greater access to and appreciation of the justice system.
