Health authorities in Kambia District have called on healthcare workers to strengthen accountability, professionalism and teamwork to improve patient care and health outcomes at the Kambia Government Hospital.
The call was made on August 18, 2026, during a staff engagement involving the Kambia Government Hospital and the District Health Management Team (DHMT), led by the District Medical Officer, Dr Sarah Conteh.
Dr Conteh commended healthcare workers for their continued commitment to providing health services and encouraged them to sustain their efforts in support of the 300 Days of Activism and its national priorities, including zero preventable maternal deaths, zero preventable child deaths and reducing the number of zero-dose children.
She reminded staff that protecting patient confidentiality and maintaining ethical and professional standards are fundamental responsibilities of healthcare workers.
Dr Conteh further urged staff to ensure that patients and their relatives are treated with dignity, patience, respect and compassion throughout their interactions with the health system.
She raised concerns over practices that could unnecessarily inconvenience or frustrate patients, calling on healthcare workers to communicate respectfully and work collectively to address patients’ needs.
According to her, effective healthcare delivery requires a coordinated team capable of providing services that are safe, timely, responsive and compassionate.
The Medical Superintendent of Kambia Government Hospital, Dr Esther Kpakiwa, thanked the DHMT for engaging directly with hospital staff and commended Dr Conteh for maintaining a strong working relationship with hospital management.
Dr Kpakiwa also stressed the importance of confidentiality, professionalism and patient-centred care, noting that the conduct of healthcare workers can significantly influence patients’ experiences and their confidence in the health system.
She warned that staff members whose conduct unnecessarily frustrates patients could face appropriate administrative measures in line with established procedures and regulations.
The engagement concluded with hospital management, the DHMT and healthcare workers reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collaboration and improving the quality of healthcare services and health outcomes across Kambia District.
