A fire incident has on Friday, May 1, 2026, reportedly engulfed the power house of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) in Lunsar, Port Loko District, raising fresh concerns about the resilience of power infrastructure in the area.

According to reports from the scene, the blaze—described by eyewitnesses as intense and potentially devastating—broke out during the evening hours, rapidly consuming parts of the facility and threatening to spread beyond the immediate power house.

Residents and bystanders initially feared the fire could escalate into a major disaster, given the strategic importance of the installation and its proximity to surrounding structures. However, the situation was brought under control following the swift intervention of the fire force from Marampa Mines Limited.

Witnesses commended the response team for their rapid action, noting that they “came quickly to support” containment efforts, helping to prevent the flames from engulfing the entire EDSA installation.

“Their timely response made a big difference. If they had delayed, the whole facility might have been lost,” one eyewitness told this publication.

As of press time, no official statement had been issued by EDSA regarding the cause of the fire or the full extent of the damage. Authorities have also not confirmed whether the incident has disrupted electricity supply in Lunsar and nearby communities.

The incident has nonetheless heightened public concern over the vulnerability of key energy infrastructure, particularly in provincial towns where backup systems and emergency response capacities are often limited.

Experts say such incidents underscore the need for regular maintenance, improved safety protocols, and investment in modernized systems to safeguard critical national assets.

Meanwhile, investigations are expected to commence as relevant authorities move to assess the damage and determine the circumstances that led to the outbreak
