US$100,000 fine for

Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah has informed the general public that the government of Sierra Leone has fined one hundred thousand united states dollars (US$100,000) to the four passengers including the captain of an unauthorized plane that landed at the country’s international airport on the 20th September, 2024. Minister Bah said that the money has already been paid into government’s consolidated fund.

It could be recalled that, the government through the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority announced the impoundment of the said aircraft which was carrying four Europeans.

Giving the update on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, during his ministry’s weekly press briefing at the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperating conference hall, Minister Bah said that after a thorough search from the country’s authorities and international counter parts including Ghana and Liberia, nothing of Police interest was found in the aircraft, adding therefore that having paid the fine, the defaulters were no longer in police net.

“Ghana and Liberia were invited to do a thorough search and found out that nothing of police interest onboarded the aircraft,” he disclosed. According to the minister, their fines followed after the government was advised for civil chargers to be levied against the offenders.
