US Ambassador pays Courtesy Call on Housr

The United States (US) Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryn David Hunt has, On Monday, June 24, 2024, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas at the Parliament building on Tower Hill in Freetown.

During their engagement, the American Ambassador congratulated the Speaker on his historic election as the youngest Speaker ever in the history of the Sierra Leone Parliament.

Ambassador Hunt intimated that he had been deeply interested in Idris Elba’s project for the people of Bonthe Island, which, according to him, would yield the much-needed dividends. The Ambassador however stated that he has never travelled to the home district of the Speaker (Bonthe Island) but promised to do, anytime, soon. The United States (US) Ambassador to Sierra Leone also disclosed that his penchant for active engagement with local initiatives cannot be overemphasized.

In his response, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas expressed thanks and appreciation to the American Ambassador for what he considered as kind gesture to visit him. He assured the Ambassador that Parliament, under his watch, will continue to enact progressive laws. He called on the American Ambassador to lend his support to Idriss Elba’s project for Bonthe, noting that such project would be a significant economic boost for Bonthe District and Sierra Leone as a whole.

Speaker Thomas also informed the U.S Ambassador that cabinet had approved the project and it would soon be tabled in Parliament for ratification. He said the project is expected to provide uninterrupted electricity to the entire island something, he said, will be a crucial development for the region.
