Students from different universities have recently hailed the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis for awarding them scholarship to pursue university education, a kind gesture that relieve them from a significant financial burden.

Speaking to Expo Times, a student of Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone (USL), one Zainab Bangura, expressed thanks and appreciation to the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament for awarding her scholarship to pursue university education. She further commended the seasoned lawmaker for not only helping her directly but also for what she referred to as a very good initiative in complementing government’s effort to provide a solid base in enhancing human capital development and transforming the country’s educational sector. She further noted that the lawmaker’s kindness and support have touched her in ways she cannot adequately express in words. Miss Bangura waxed lyrical about Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis for providing her with the opportunity to pursue her academic goals without worry or distraction. She furthered that the lawmaker’s belief in the power of education speaks volumes, stressing that his willingness to invest in students’ future mean the world to them. She maintained that the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament is someone whose passion for education cannot be overemphasized, adding that his investment in her education will not only benefit her but will also ripple out into the community and beyond.

Another student of the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), USL, one Mohamed Massaquoi, also lavished praises on Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis for giving him the opportunity to become one of the beneficiaries. The IPAM student described the lawmaker as an astute leader who always bends over backwards to ensure the happiness of others, adding that he has distinguished himself in society, through service, selflessness and other outstanding contributions that have positively impacted the lives of many. Mohmed Massaquoi maintained that Hon. Tunis has won plaudits from many quarters, describing him as a generous, credible and trustworthy leader whose exemplary performance has become the beacon of hope for a good number of Sierra Leoneans. The student also expressed thanks and appreciation to the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament while assuring that his generosity will not go unnoticed as, according to him, he is committed to working diligently and making the most of the educational opportunities afforded him.

It could be recalled that the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, during the recent closing session of the extraordinary meeting in Freetown, unveiled a five-year fund of ten billion Leones dedicated for supporting university students through an organization referred to as One Love Salone Foundation. The foundation, according to report, has already supported sixty-seven students with the aim of expanding to one hundred, this year and one hundred and fifty in the coming year.

The One Love Salone Foundation is reportedly established by the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament and his wife, Mrs Nabeela Tunis as their penchant for education cannot be overemphasized. The initiative, according to report, is not only geared to providing tuition fees but also laptop computers for students.
