The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has continued its Park-to-Park Road Safety Sensitization Campaign at the Waterloo 55 Lorry Park, urging commercial drivers to adopt safer driving practices during the rainy season to reduce road traffic crashes.
The awareness campaign focused on the dangers associated with wet and slippery roads, with drivers being advised to reduce speed, maintain safe following distances, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and exercise greater caution while driving.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Executive Director, Transport Manager Daniel C. Kaitibe cautioned drivers against dangerous overtaking, the use of mobile phones while driving, and other traffic violations. He emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility and called on drivers to prioritize the safety of passengers and other road users by embracing defensive driving practices.
Vice President of the Motor Drivers’ Union, Momodu Koroma, pledged the Union’s continued support for the Authority’s road safety initiatives. He commended SLRSA for maintaining regular engagement with commercial drivers, noting that the sensitization campaign serves as an important reminder of drivers’ responsibilities and promotes a stronger culture of safety within the transport sector.
The programme also featured training sessions on the legal responsibilities of drivers, delivered by the Manager of Safety and Enforcement, Augustine A.K. Lansana, and defensive driving techniques facilitated by Transport Manager Daniel C. Kaitibe.
SLRSA said the Park-to-Park Sensitization Campaign remains one of its flagship public education programmes aimed at promoting a safety-conscious driving culture. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to extending the campaign to transport hubs across the country as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents nationwide.
