E.U. lauds A.U. for historic continental free trade pact, pledges support

Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Togolese Republic, resident in Accra, Ghana, His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, on Wednesday, 8th July 2026, presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Togolese Republic, His Excellency Jean-Lucien Savi de Tové, in Lomé, Togo.

The ceremony was held at the New Presidential Palace of the Republic in Lomé.

President Jean-Lucien Savi de Tové warmly welcomed and congratulated High Commissioner Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba on the presentation of his credentials, which marked the commencement of his diplomatic tour of duty in the Togolese Republic.

The President assured the High Commissioner that his government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, would provide all the necessary support to facilitate the effective discharge of his diplomatic responsibilities and wished him every success in his new assignment.

In his remarks, High Commissioner Kaisamba reaffirmed the strong historical ties between Sierra Leone and Togo, particularly their shared membership in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He also highlighted the signature initiatives of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and conveyed the President’s fraternal greetings to his Togolese counterpart.

He noted that Sierra Leone and Togo have enjoyed a longstanding relationship, recalling Togo’s invaluable support in helping to bring Sierra Leone’s civil war to an end. He also commended the significant role played by the Togolese Republic during the signing of the Lomé Peace Accord.

“As I assume my duties and begin my diplomatic tour in Togo, I am eager to deepen our bilateral trade and economic cooperation,” he stated.

He reiterated Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Togo in the areas of peace-building, regional security, and maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.

The High Commissioner also highlighted Sierra Leone’s agricultural transformation agenda and expressed interest in sharing knowledge and best practices with Togo while promoting increased bilateral trade in agricultural commodities.

High Commissioner Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Togolese Republic, is resident in Accra, Ghana, and is concurrently accredited to Burkina Faso and the Republic of Benin.

Presenting letters of credence also alongside H.E. Kaisamba in Togo, were the Heads of mission of Spain and Brazil, H.E.  Luis Maldo Villafane Gomes Santos and H.E.Lossada Tress-Quevedo Angel.

During the presentation of his Letters of Credence, High Commissioner Kaisamba was accompanied by the Head of Chancery and Minister Plenipotentiary, Mr. Edwin Aiah Mbawa, as well as other diplomatic staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission.
