Sierra Leone is set to compete at the confederation of African Tennis (CAT) West African Junior team championships, scheduled to take place in Lomé, Togo, from January 15 to 23, 2026.
The regional tournament will bring together Under-14 and under-16 national teams from across West and Central Africa, providing a vital platform for young talents to compete at a high international level.
The Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) will be represented in the under-14 boys category by two promising young players, Morlai Bangura and Isaiah Ishaka Kargbo, the team is accompanied by Coach Saywa Sesay, who will guide the players throughout the championship.
Matches at the tournament will be played in both singles and doubles formats, testing players’ technical ability, endurance, and teamwork, the championship forms part of the ITF/CAT junior circuit, offering participants valuable international exposure and ranking points, which are critical for player development and future competitive opportunities.
The Sierra Leone delegation’s participation has received strong backing from the SLTA leadership, including president Andy Bam, vice president Ambassador Ali Mohsen, Benjamin Stevens, and members of the executive committee, whose support ensured the team’s successful travel and preparation for the competition.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, officials expressed confidence in the players’ readiness and described the championship as an important step in strengthening junior tennis development in Sierra Leone, as the young athletes prepare to represent the nation on the regional stage, the tennis community has rallied behind them with messages of encouragement and support.
