Ambassador Sadiq Sillah presenting his Letters of Credence to the Sudanese President
Sierra Leone’s newly accredited Ambassador to Sudan, Sadiq Silla, has officially presented his Letters of Credence to General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council (TSC), in a ceremony held at the Republican Palace in Khartoum.
The diplomatic ceremony marked a significant step in strengthening relations between Sierra Leone and Sudan and was attended by Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem, alongside other senior government officials.
During the engagement, President Al-Burhan reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Sierra Leone, noting the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations in areas of mutual interest. He expressed his government’s willingness to work with Sierra Leone to further promote friendship and partnership between both countries.
Ambassador Silla conveyed Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two countries. He praised Sudanese authorities for their efforts toward restoring peace, security and stability, while reaffirming Sierra Leone’s support for initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace.
The presentation of credentials comes at a time of renewed diplomatic engagement between Freetown and Khartoum.
The relationship gained further momentum following President Al-Burhan’s official visit to Sierra Leone in January 2025, where he held discussions with President Dr. Julius Maada Bio on strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
Sierra Leone and Sudan have over the years maintained collaboration through various multilateral platforms, particularly in areas related to international peace and security, civilian protection, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The appointment of Ambassador Silla is expected to further enhance diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, creating new opportunities for collaboration in political, economic and social development sectors.
As both nations continue to navigate regional and global challenges, the renewed partnership is seen as a demonstration of their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability and mutual development.
