Senegalese Ambassador Pays Courtesy Visit to Sierra Leone’s Envoy in Moscow

In a gesture symbolizing African unity and diplomatic goodwill, His Excellency Ambassador Stephan Sylvain Sambou, the newly appointed Ambassador of Senegal to the Russian Federation, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Russia and Vice Dean of the African Ambassadors’ Group in Moscow.

The meeting, held at the Sierra Leone Embassy, highlighted the strong fraternal relations between Senegal and Sierra Leone two West African nations with deep-rooted historical, cultural, and political ties. Ambassador Yongawo welcomed his Senegalese counterpart with warmth and reaffirmed the longstanding bonds between the two countries.

Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional collaboration through platforms such as the economic community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU), and the United Nations. Both diplomats emphasized the need for increased engagement in trade, education, cultural exchange, and economic development, both within their home countries and in the Russian Federation.

Ambassador Sambou expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by Ambassador Yongawo and his team, he acknowledged the importance of cultivating strong working relationships among African ambassadors in Moscow, especially as they navigate the complexities of international diplomacy in a changing global landscape.

Ambassador Yongawo reiterated Sierra Leone’s commitment to fostering African solidarity and highlighted the key role of diplomacy in achieving shared goals for peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent. He welcomed Ambassador Sambou’s initiative to strengthen ties and noted that mutual cooperation between African nations in the diaspora is vital to advancing continental priorities.

The two ambassadors also discussed the need for continued advocacy for Africa-driven solutions to African challenges, including regional integration, United Nations Security Council reform, and implementation of the Common African Agenda,the courtesy call concluded with both envoys pledging continued collaboration in Moscow and beyond, as they work toward a unified and prosperous Africa.
