over 55 million old leones found at collapsed shell building

In a display of honesty, transparency and accountability, search and rescue team at the collapsed seven-storied building in Freetown found Fifty-Five Thousand Six Hundred Leones (Le55,600) and returned the said money to the owner, someone who runs one of the businesses at the collapsed building.

The handing over of the money is said to be a success story, in addition to many people being recused alive. The handing over of the money took place at the site on Friday, September 20th, 2024, in the presence of security personnel, the Director General of National Disaster Management Agency, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Brima Sesay, Hon. Princess Kadie Daramy, member of parliament representing the people in that part of the country and community stakeholders.

The event underscores the unwavering commitment of authorities to ensure transparency and accountability during such difficult time for victims and families of those who died in the tragedy.

The recipient of the money, Mr. Ibrahim Sow thanked authorities for the gesture, saying he has lost more than the amount given to him, requesting for assistance from the government.
