Orange Sierra Leone has on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, hosted journalists at its Digital Center, Orange Office, Hill Station, Freetown, for an orientation programme on Coursera digital training for journalists.

The programme was organized to strengthen the capacity of journalists in the use of new digital tools and skills, recognizing the media as the Fourth Estate of government in a rapidly evolving digital age.

Speaking at the event, Annie W. Kalta, Director of the Orange Foundation, emphasized the importance of the training and its long-term benefits to journalists. She encouraged participants to embrace new technologies, remain curious, and actively engage with digital learning platforms to remain relevant in modern journalism.

The General Secretary of Orange Sierra Leone, Madam Danelta Yorge, highlighted the company’s continued support for the media landscape in Sierra Leone. She noted that this training is not the first initiative Orange has undertaken to support journalists and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving professionalism in the media sector. She urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity, stressing that Orange Sierra Leone is ready to work closely with the media and the Government of Sierra Leone.

Amadu Lamrana Bah, CEO and founder of Truth Media SL. reaffirmed Orange Sierra Leone’s commitment to supporting journalists through financial assistance and scholarship opportunities, particularly for mass communication students. He observed that online journalism has taken center stage, surpassing traditional radio listening, and emphasized the importance of digital inclusion in today’s media environment.

One of the participants, Khadijja Bangura of Liberty TV, expressed her appreciation for being part of the orientation. She noted that such training opportunities would not be possible without the support of Orange Sierra Leone. According to her, trainings of this nature will go a long way in helping journalists remain relevant and competitive, and she encouraged all applicants to fully utilize the programme.

The Vice President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Richard Ngevao, thanked Orange Sierra Leone for hosting the training. He reaffirmed SLAJ’s commitment to capacity building and urged participants to maximize the opportunity and become ambassadors of digital journalism within their communities.
