With support from Mobility World-wide and POPDA, a local NGO, Mobility Sierra Leone that specializes in wheel chairs, tricycles and clutches has embarked on a Nation- wide distribution. This distribution was made possible after both councils in the Bombali district contributed with transportation for the conveying of these devices for persons living with disabilities. “Article 20 of the United Nations Convention makes it mandatory for government to take the issues of disabilities very seriously,” said Mr. Lamin Mansaray, head of Mobility Sierra Leone, a local NGO, based in Bo. And he went on to state that persons with disabilities have been too disadvantaged in this country and called on government to ” make their work easy.”

Speaking after receiving the devices, a disable, Mr. Mathew Tholley who is the director of POPDA in Makeni told the gathering that the 5% allocated for persons with disabilities “is not enough and therefore government must do more as the circumstances of disabled people is dire.” On his part, the gender desk officer in the Makeni City Council, Mr Hassan Kamara said that ” government should be given waivers to disable items as they are not brought to the country for business but for free distribution.” He promised to help create a disability in both councils so that ” matters of disabilities are with quickly and easily.” The vote of thanks was given by a disable after the distribution in Bombali district.
