The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) bestowed an honor upon Minister Conrad Sackey on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in appreciation of his exemplary dedication to girls’ education in Sierra Leone.
The prestigious award was presented during the launch of FAWE Sierra Leone’s Strategic Plan 2024-2028, under the theme “Education for All Children in Sierra Leone: The Time is Now,” held at the Vinilla Complex in Aberdeen, Freetown.
In his keynote address, Minister Conrad Sackey expressed profound gratitude for the recognition from FAWE, noting that this acknowledgment is the first he has received since assuming his ministerial role. He underscored the government’s firm commitment to prioritizing the education of the girl child, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe and conducive learning environment for girls. Minister Sackey stressed the significance of ensuring that girls not only attend school but also successfully complete their education and acquire the necessary skills for future opportunities in the workforce.
Commending FAWE’s efforts in advancing girls’ education in Sierra Leone and beyond, Minister Sackey recognized the critical role the organization plays in promoting educational equality across Africa. He lauded FAWE’s unveiling of a new five-year strategic plan aimed at fostering partnerships and enhancing initiatives to achieve gender parity and enhance educational standards within Sierra Leone’s educational landscape.
As he concluded his address, Minister Sackey officially launched FAWE’s Strategic Plan for Sierra Leone (2024–2028), urging the organization to remain steadfast in its mission. He emphasized the importance of effective plan implementation, noting that the true value of the strategic framework lies in tangible actions and sustainable progress towards advancing girls’ education and empowering young women throughout Sierra Leone.
