Five persons are reported to have lost their lives in a devastating incident on Taiama Bridge in the evening hours of Wednesday, 11th September, 2024. The five young men, reported to be relatives, regularly travelled from Freetown to Liberia where one of them resides. The fatal accident occurred as they were returning from Freetown. According to report, the accident occurred when their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the bridge. Despite the efforts of residents in the community, the situation proved dire. Young men from Taiama, who were quick to respond, worked tirelessly to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage.
Emergency services and authorities were soon on the scene, but the lives of the brothers, who were all in their early thirties, could not be saved. The identities of the victims have been released, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local communities in both Sierra Leone and Liberia, where the brothers were known and loved. Tributes are pouring in from friends and family, mourning the loss of the young lives cut short. The authorities have urged travellers to exercise extreme caution on the roads, particularly on bridges and other potentially risky location because the roads are slippery now as the country still experiences heavy downpours, a situation that has caused several road accidents.
