Disability Inclusion – Sierra Leone has on Saturday, 11th April, 2026 started an 8-day training of especially persons with disability. Disables from the south are being trained in various fields to enhance their development and independence. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the director of Disability and Inclusion – Sierra Leone, Abdul Sheriff reiterated the constraints that they, disables are going through which is ” why we want to ensure that this discrimination comes to an end. That there should be nothing about us without us.” He went on to say that policies are made and decisions taken in the country without regards for persons with disabilities. Gerald Anthony Foday, a renowned civil society activist told the gathering that ” more needs to be done for persons with disabilities to enhance Inclusion.” That disability is never inability and that people with disabilities are equally capable to do things that every normal person can do.

The consultant for the training started with advocacy and later went to project writing. He told the gathering that persons with disabilities need to be advocated for and their voices matter if change should come to their lives. On why he started with project writing, the consultant said that there’s need for projects which ensure “I that disables are factored into government’s development plan so that the gap is bridged between them and able – body people.” Sylvanus Van- Fannah who is the program manager for Disability Inclusion – Sierra Leone urged fellow persons with disabilities to” treat the matters arising with the seriousness that they deserve and entreated them to listen attentively during the training.” Participants at the training who were disables called on stakeholders to continue to advocate for them until their lives become better.
