Beggar Jailed For Fraudulent

Magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah of Magistrate Court No.2 in Kenema has recently sentenced one Mustapha Sheriff, a beggar, of Nyandeyama old Town in Kenema to four years imprisonment.

The accused was charged to court on one count of fraudulent conversation contrary to Section 20(1) (1v) (b) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The particulars of offence stated that the beggar, Mustapha Sheriff on September 15, 2023 at Central Mosque in Kenema City, fraudulently converted to his own use and benefit, One Itel button phone valued five hundred New Leones (NLe 500), 4G memory card valued one hundred and twenty News Leones (NLe 120) all to the total amount of six hundred and twenty new Leones (NLe 620) entrusted to him by Ansu Kamara for the purpose of charging the said properties.

The accused pleaded guilty and asked for mercy and was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment.

In his ruling, having heard from the prosecution submitting the fact of the case and record of the accused that proved he is not a first-time offender and having heard his plea mitigation, Magistrate Brima-Jah did not give an alternative fine but a custodian sentence on the grounds that the accused was not a first-time offender.

The matter was prosecuted by police constable 13536 Moseray Alfred.
