His Excellency, President Dr Julius Maada Bio will, tomorrow Tuesday, 6th August, 2024, deliver the State opening of Parliament at the Parliament Building on Tower Hill in Freetown.
Section 84 of Subsection 3 Act No. 6 of the 1991 Constitution states that, “The President shall at the beginning of each session of Parliament present to Parliament an address on the state of the nation.” The State opening of the Second Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, address is expected to capture the status and vision of the current administration.
The State Opening of Parliament is an event in Sierra Leone during which the President gives his speech from the seat of the Speaker of Parliament, it is the formal beginning of a new session of Parliament. His Excellency President Bio will put on the Imperial State outfit and the parliamentary mace is carried before him as symbols of authority.
Following the President’s speech, Parliament is expected to debate on the content of the speech as it provides opportunity for MPs to scrutinize the government’s proposed agenda.
