Yayah Jusu a Labourer, Second One-Mile Section, Blama Town and Alfred Sandy a business Man of Tengbeh Town in Kenema have been sent to jail by Magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah of Magistrate Court No.2 in Kenema for possession of Kush.
The two accused were charged to Court for Possession of Narcotics Contrary to Sec. 48(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act No.12 of 2001.
According to prosecution, the two Accused persons on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Second One-Mile Section in Blama, Small-Bo Chiefdom, Kenema Judicial District in the Eastern province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, were found in possession of Kush. The Accused Yayah Jusu was found in possession of Seventy (70) wraps of Kush whilst Alfred Sandy was arrested Fifty- Two (52) wraps of Kush.
In his ruling, Magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah having heard from the Prosecution the fact of the Case and record of the First and Second Accused Persons and having heard from the Two Accused Persons pleaded for mercy, the Magistrate did not give an alternate but a custodian.
The Second accused was one of those convicts who escaped from the Sierra Leone Correctional Service during the Prison Break in November 26, 2023 and never showed up until he was arrested with Kush. The first accused as a first-time offender. Magistrate Briama-Jah sent him to Sierra Leone Correctional Service in Kenema for a term of three years imprisonment and the second accused for a term of five years imprisonment.
Police Inspector, Aiah Mafinda Teh, prosecuted the matter on behalf of the State and Defence Counsel, Patrick Kamara on behalf of the Accused.
