In a renewed effort to clamp down on the spread of synthetic drugs across Sierra Leone, on Tuesday, 8 July 2025, officers at the Adonkia Police Station have arrested a suspected drug producer, Osman Kamara of Regent Road, Lumley. The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday evening in Goderich with a suitcase allegedly containing narcotics and equipment commonly used in the production of KUSH a synthetic substance ravaging communities nationwide.
Police say the operation, executed after weeks of surveillance, resulted in the discovery of three white plastic bags containing dry leaves suspected to be KUSH, officers also uncovered a white rubber container filled with a chemical liquid believed to be used in the drug’s manufacture.
Additional items found at the scene included red rubber gloves, an outdated electronic scale, three small cups marked synthetic food colour, a white bottle of unidentified liquid, adhesive tape, and three face masks all indicative of illegal drug processing activities.
According to law enforcement officials, the raid was part of a broader crackdown led by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sylvester M. N. Koroma, Regional Commander for Freetown West. AIG Koroma has spearheaded multiple anti-drug operations in recent months, including raids on Taylor Street and Toke, as well as the dismantling of suspected makeshift drug laboratories.
Speaking on the operation, a police source confirmed that a formal statement has been obtained from the suspect, and all seized items are now in police custody. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of Kamara’s involvement and whether he is linked to a larger distribution network.
AIG Koroma has reiterated his office’s firm stance against the illegal drug trade, stressing the need for community cooperation to root out drug dens and protect vulnerable youth from addiction.
This is not just about arrests it’s about saving lives and restoring public confidence in our communities; he emphasized during a recent community engagement in Tokeh.
With the synthetic drug epidemic taking a toll on public health and social welfare, the Sierra Leone Police continue to scale up enforcement while urging citizens to report suspicious activity. The Adonkia arrest serves as a stark reminder that the fight against drug-related crime remains a top priority for law enforcement in the western region.
