Police put CCTV to strengthen crime prevention
The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has begun installing CCTV cameras at key locations across the Southern Region’s Provincial Headquarters, starting with Bo City. This strategic initiative, championed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu, aims to strengthen crime prevention, enhance policing effectiveness, and foster greater trust between the police and local communities.
Among the key sites for the new surveillance system is the Bo Government Hospital, reflecting the SLP’s commitment to leveraging modern technology in its crime-fighting efforts. The rollout in Bo follows the successful deployment of CCTV cameras in Freetown, which has already shown promising results in improving police visibility and speeding up investigations.
Since taking office, IGP Sellu has demonstrated a clear vision to transform the Sierra Leone Police from a traditional law enforcement body into a service-oriented institution focused on community safety and professionalism. His leadership has ushered in reforms designed to modernize policing and raise standards nationwide.
Looking ahead, IGP Sellu plans to extend CCTV coverage to all regional police headquarters towns, signaling a nationwide push to integrate technology into everyday policing. This move highlights the police chief’s commitment to innovative approaches that enhance public safety and build mutual confidence between the police and citizens.
This CCTV installation is a significant step toward a safer Sierra Leone, reinforcing the SLP’s mission to protect and serve through cutting-edge tools and community engagement.
