May 2, 2025 , three individuals, Abubakarr Turay (37, stone miner), Fatmata Bangura (38, stone miner), and Kadiatu Turay (19, pupil), appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1, facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny under the larceny Act of 1916. The charges stem from an alleged theft of $7,000 (Le 170,100) from the home of complainant Kai Kamara at Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown, on January 15, 2025.
According to the charge sheet, the trio conspired to steal the money, during their arraignment, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty, while Fatmata Bangura and Kadiatu Turay admitted to the offense. Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S. Mansaray led the prosecution, presenting testimony from detective police constable (DPC) 14010 Forneh Kargbo, attached to the CID Hill Top Police Station.
DPC Kargbo testified that on January 15, 2025, police visited Fatmata Bangura’s residence and presented a search warrant to the accused, involving two neighbors as witnesses, the search uncovered Le 11,150 and $100. Fatmata claimed the money came from Kai Kamara and her petty trading. No items of interest were found at the other accused’s homes.
On January 16, voluntary caution statements were obtained from Fatmata Bangura and Kadiatu Turay, overseen by Sub-Inspector Abdul Dumbuya. On January 17, Fatmata provided an additional confessional statement, which was tendered in court. By January 18, all three were charged with conspiracy and larceny, with statements submitted as court records.
Magistrate Kekura adjourned the case to May 5, 2025, and continued bail for the accused.
