A heartbreaking building collapse at Cemetery Junction has resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others. The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025, around 6:15 PM at No. 4 Congress Road, a one-storey structure that contained a daycare on the upper floor and a residential area on the lower level.
At the time of the collapse, a men’s union team from the Blessed Assurance International Bible Church was conducting a rehearsal for their upcoming Thanksgiving Service. The rehearsal, however, turned tragic when the building suddenly caved in. Saio Kamara, one of the church members, was killed in the incident. His body has been taken to the Rokupa Mortuary for formal identification.
Four others were also injured in the collapse. Two individuals have since been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment, while two others remain in critical condition. The seriously injured victims were transferred to Connaught Hospital for further care.
In response to the emergency, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) swiftly mobilized a rapid response team. Led by Sinneh Mansaray, the Director of Relief and Response, the NDMA has confirmed that all occupants of the building have been safely evacuated. To ensure the safety and stability of the area, two security personnel have been assigned to the scene.
The NDMA has called on the public to remain calm as investigations into the cause of the collapse continue. Local authorities are working diligently to provide support to those affected by the incident, and safety inspections are underway for the building.
The community is in mourning following this tragic event, with residents expressing their shock and sadness over the loss of Saio Kamara and wishing for the recovery of the injured.
