The General Manager of Sonoco-Sierra Leone has recently promised that his company is determined to create impact and provide more jobs for young people as it continues to provide scholarship at the Bread Avenue Academy at its headquarters in Wellington, East of the capital, Freetown.
In a snap interview with The Expo Times, The General Manager, Mark Pritchard, said that Sonoco is a Guinean Company that is engaged in multiple sectors across the subregion, adding that it is one of the biggest flour producing companies in West Africa.
According to the General Manager, Sonoco-Sierra Leone is currently constructing a flour mill that will employ between 600 and 800 young Sierra Leoneans. Mr Pritchard further noted that in the no distance future after completion of the flour mill, the company will start exporting to neighbouring countries, including Liberia and Ivory coast.
The General Manager also disclosed that Bread Avenue Academy is divided into a restaurant and the academy where training for 80 young people in different fields, including but not limited to, pastry, baking and entrepreneurship, is underway. He pointed out that the courses last for six months with the first three-month going for certificate and the last three-month a diploma. He further disclosed that by early next year Bread Avenue would establish branches in the Central Business District (CBD) and West of the capital.
The General Manager further disclosed that Bread Avenue Academy is accredited by National Council for Technical Vocational and other Academic Awards (NCTVA) and the Ministry of Higher Education. He maintained that young people who want to secure the scholarship should possess their West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and should be 18 years or above.
