Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, popularly known as “De Monk,” has been hailed as one of the most hardworking presidents of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ). Under his leadership, the association has made significant strides in protecting the lives and rights of journalists across the country.
Since assuming office, Nasralla has prioritized the safety and welfare of journalists, ensuring their rights are upheld and their voices respected. His tenure has seen notable improvements in addressing issues that affect journalists, including advocating for justice in cases where media practitioners have been targeted.
One of the significant cases under his leadership involved the alleged murder of sports journalist Samuel Brima Miata. With the cooperation of the police, investigations revealed the station manager was implicated in the crime. This case is a testament to Nasralla’s commitment to ensuring justice for journalists and holding perpetrators accountable.
Nasralla’s dedication to his role has not gone unnoticed. Recently, he was appointed Chairman of the Sierra Leone chapter of All Works of Life (AWOL), a recognition of his tireless efforts and exemplary leadership. This new appointment is a reflection of his hard work, resilience, and ability to inspire a new generation of leaders.
Under Nasralla’s guidance, SLAJ has become a beacon of hope for media practitioners in Sierra Leone, fostering an environment where journalists feel protected and valued. His leadership has carried a significant load, but he continues to rise to the challenge, making a lasting impact on the media landscape in the country.
