In recognition of its commitment to democratic governance and legislative excellence, the Parliament of Sierra Leone has been honored with the Distinguished Legislative Performance Award by the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Turkey, the award was formally presented on Friday, May 30, 2025, during a special ceremony that celebrated institutional contributions to national progress and international diplomacy, the award citation praised the parliament for its “dedicated service, legislative excellence, and steadfast contribution to promoting good governance and national development.”

Delivering the award on behalf of the Embassy, the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, highlighted the context in which the recognition was conferred. He explained that the Sierra Leone Embassy in Turkey had recently hosted a high-level Investment and Trade Seminar in Istanbul, where representatives from various government ministries and agencies showcased Sierra Leone’s development potential, among the speakers was the Clerk of Parliament, who made a presentation on behalf of the legislative body, outlining its reform agenda and contributions to democratic consolidation.

The Embassy noted Parliament’s consistent performance in passing progressive laws, strengthening institutional accountability, and maintaining oversight of the executive branch, the award also recognized the Parliament’s role in enhancing Sierra Leone’s international reputation and fostering strong bilateral relations, particularly with Turkey, this recognition adds to a growing list of accolades for the Parliament, which has been instrumental in supporting the government’s reform programs and driving national dialogue on key policy issues.
