The Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), Yankuba Askia Bio, has been honoured with the prestigious Africa-UK Diaspora Trade Award in recognition of his exemplary leadership and contributions to national development.

According to the award’s citation, Mr. Bio was recognised for his “outstanding leadership in port operations and management,” as well as his commitment to improving efficiency, driving innovation, and advancing Sierra Leone’s maritime sector.

The award was presented on Friday 29th May, 2026 during the annual Africa-UK Diaspora Trade and Investment Summit and Awards at the Hilton London Kensington gala in London. The Africa-UK Diaspora Trade and Investment Summit and Awards is an annual platform that brings together entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and business leaders to strengthen trade and investment links between Africa and the United Kingdom.

This latest honour adds to the growing list of local and international recognitions Mr. Bio has received for his transformative leadership in the maritime industry. This laurel also highlights DG Yankuba Askia Bio’s commitment to improving efficiency, driving innovation, and advancing the growth and development of Sierra Leone’s maritime sector
