The newly appointed Sierra Leone Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Dr. Abu Bakarr Karim presented copies of his letter of credence to the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing, Capital City of the PRC on 24th November, 2023.
At the presentation ceremony, the Director General of the Protocol Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hong Lei welcomed and congratulated the new Ambassador on his appointment. He assured Ambassador Karim of his commitment in deepening bilateral relations between the two republics, China and Sierra Leone. Director General Hong Lei laid emphasis on what he called strong historical ties between the two nations and acknowledged the need for further collaboration.
Presenting the Presidential Credentials bestowed on him by his Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Ambassador Abu Bakarr Karim conveyed warm greetings and felicitations from his boss, President Bio, Government and the people of Sierra Leone to His Excellency President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.
Ambassador Karim expressed gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception accorded him by the Chinese Government and affirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Sierra Leone and China.
Ambassador Karim also emphasized on the potential for more cooperation and collaboration in areas such as agriculture, trade, health, infrastructural development and education through exchange of programmes. He stressed that his primary objective was to promote mutual partnerships that will contribute to the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone.
Both parties discussed the upcoming visit of the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone President to the People’s Republic of China and highlighted the importance of expanding economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture, mining and technology.
The presentation of letter of credence signifies official recognition of Ambassador Abu Bakarr Kaim as Sierra Leone ambassadorial representative in the PRC. This event marks an important step toward enhancing diplomatic relations and the promotion of cooperation between the two Countries.
His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Abu Bakarr Karim is expected to perform final presentation of credentials to the President of the PRC on a date to be stipulated and communicated to the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
