Moeba Community Gets New Police

By Kadiatu A. Turay

In a move to bolster security in the Moeba community, the Mamba Bridge Community has officially handed over a newly constructed police post to the Sierra Leone Police Force. The handover ceremony, held on September 12, 2024, marked a major step forward in improving the safety and protection of residents in the growing community.

The police post, which was funded and constructed by community members, is strategically located to address the rising concerns of insecurity in the area. In recent years, Moeba has experienced a surge in crime rates, including theft, burglary, and other criminal activities, particularly at night. The establishment of the new police post is expected to reduce response times and increase police visibility, providing much-needed reassurance to residents.

At the ceremony, the Chairman of the Mamba Bridge Community Development Committee, Ibrahim Kamara, emphasized the importance of the project in fostering a safe and secure environment for all. “This police post is a product of collective efforts from our community, and it shows our commitment to ensuring that Moeba remains a peaceful place to live,” he said. “We hope this initiative will strengthen the partnership between the community and the police in fighting crime.”

The Officer-in-Charge of the Moeba Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fatmata Bangura, expressed gratitude for the community’s support. She acknowledged the growing need for increased security measures and assured the community that the new post would be well-equipped and staffed to meet their expectations. “This is a landmark achievement, and we are ready to work hand in hand with the community to ensure safety and security for all,” ASP Bangura stated.

Residents at the event expressed optimism that the police post would be a game-changer in their neighborhood. Mary Sesay, a local shop owner, said, “We have lived in fear for too long, especially at night. With this new post, we feel safer already. I applaud the community leaders for making this possible.”

The handover of the police post is seen as a model for other communities in Sierra Leone, demonstrating how local initiatives can contribute to national security efforts. With the ongoing collaboration between law enforcement and the residents of Moeba, the future of the community looks promising, as both parties are committed to maintaining a peaceful and secure environment for all.
