The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across Sierra Leone through a strategic leadership engagement at Makeni Regional Hospital, aimed at improving hospital management, enhancing accountability, and advancing the objectives of the Government’s 300 Days of Activism initiative.
The high-level engagement, held on Thursday, July 30, was led by the Director of Hospital and Ambulance Services, Ibrahim Foday-Musa, alongside the Programme Manager for Child Health, Dr. Linda Farma Grant. The delegation met with the hospital’s management team and medical doctors to discuss key priorities for improving service delivery and addressing challenges within the health sector.
The visit formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to reinforce leadership at regional hospitals while ensuring quality healthcare services remain accessible to citizens. Officials commended the hospital’s management and healthcare workers for their dedication and sacrifices in providing essential medical services despite the challenges facing the health sector.
Speaking during the engagement, the Ministry’s representatives reiterated their commitment to supporting frontline health workers and strengthening hospital systems to achieve the goals of the 300 Days of Activism. The initiative places particular emphasis on reducing preventable maternal and child deaths, improving patient care, and enhancing the overall quality of services in government health facilities.
As part of the visit, the delegation conducted an on-the-spot staff attendance and operational assessment to evaluate workforce availability, improve accountability, and ensure that essential health services are being delivered efficiently.
The meeting also reviewed recent child mortality data, with participants identifying practical and evidence-based strategies to strengthen paediatric healthcare, improve clinical decision-making, and enhance patient outcomes. The discussions underscored the Ministry’s determination to use data-driven interventions to improve healthcare delivery across the country.
A major highlight of the engagement was the official welcome of the newly appointed Medical Superintendent of Makeni Regional Hospital, Dr. Francis Bayor. He pledged to provide strong and inclusive leadership, foster teamwork among staff, and work tirelessly to improve the quality of healthcare services at the facility.
The Ministry also recognised the valuable contributions of the outgoing Medical Superintendent, who has been promoted to serve as District Medical Officer for Bonthe District. Officials congratulated him on his new appointment and thanked him for his dedicated service to Makeni Regional Hospital.
The engagement reflects the Ministry of Health’s broader commitment to strengthening leadership, promoting accountability, and improving healthcare outcomes as Sierra Leone continues to invest in a more resilient and responsive health system.
