Journalists and Bloggers Unite to propel women's peace and Security

In a dynamic convergence of media professionals committed to amplifying women’s voices and advancing gender equality, journalists and bloggers gathered at a recent workshop. hosted by Campaign for Good Governance, the event served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among individuals dedicated to harnessing the power of media for social change.

Among the distinguished facilitators was Bernadette French, Director of Programs at Valuable Guidance and Leadership, whose expertise guided discussions towards inclusive approaches to peacebuilding and gender empowerment initiatives. French’s insights underscored the pivotal role of media in shaping narratives and fostering meaningful societal transformation.

Marcella Samba-Sesay, Executive Director of CGG, brought her wealth of knowledge and expertise to the fore, emphasizing the media’s responsibility in challenging stereotypes and advocating for gender equality. Through strategic storytelling and advocacy efforts, Samba-Sesay highlighted the potential of media to drive positive change and amplify marginalized voices.

Charles Vandy, Director of the Gender Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA), provided governmental perspectives on policy implementation and the crucial role of media in advancing gender equality agendas. His contributions emphasized the importance of collaboration between media practitioners and government institutions to effect systemic change.

Yeama Sarah Thompson-Oguaneh, a national expert and former Commissioner of the Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC), offered valuable insights into the intersectionality of gender, access to information, and peacebuilding efforts. Thompson-Oguaneh’s contributions underscored the need for media to serve as a conduit for transparency and accountability in advancing women’s rights.

Throughout the workshop, journalists and bloggers engaged in lively discussions, sharing best practices and innovative approaches to amplifying women’s voices and advocating for gender equality. Central to these discussions were strategies for combatting gender-based violence, promoting women’s participation in decision-making processes, and challenging societal norms that perpetuate inequality.

Participants explored the potential of multimedia platforms, including social media, podcasts, and online publications, to reach diverse audiences and effect change. They emphasized the importance of responsible reporting and ethical journalism in combating misinformation and promoting accurate portrayals of women’s experiences and contributions.

As the workshop progressed, participants delved into case studies and success stories from around the world, drawing inspiration from initiatives that have successfully utilized media as a tool for empowerment and advocacy. From grassroots movements to international campaigns, examples abound of the transformative power of media in advancing gender equality and peace.

As the workshop concluded, participants departed with renewed determination to leverage their platforms and influence for positive social change. Their collective commitment to advancing women’s rights and promoting peace through media serves as a beacon of hope in the ongoing journey towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
