The Ministry of Internal Affairs on Thursday, June 4, 2026, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security sector cooperation and improving operational effectiveness through a high-level inter-agency meeting held at the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) new administrative building.

The meeting, which forms part of the Ministry’s rotating inter-agency engagement initiative, brought together heads of agencies and departments under the Ministry to discuss strategies for enhancing collaboration, addressing security challenges, and improving service delivery across the country.

Chairing the meeting, Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., commended the heads of agencies for their dedication and collective efforts in advancing their respective mandates. He noted that effective collaboration among security institutions remains critical to maintaining peace, safety, and public confidence.

Minister Lengor emphasized his commitment to providing strong leadership, policy oversight, and political support to ensure that agencies under the Ministry continue to improve their performance and fulfill their responsibilities efficiently.

He encouraged all stakeholders to sustain the spirit of teamwork and cooperation, stressing that coordinated efforts are essential in addressing emerging security concerns and achieving the Ministry’s objectives.

“The success of our security institutions depends on our ability to work together with professionalism, dedication, and integrity,” he said, urging officials to execute their duties with the highest level of responsibility and commitment.

The Minister also disclosed plans to engage the Sierra Leone Police in the Western Area and other regions to develop a proactive security strategy aimed at preventing crime and enhancing public safety.

According to him, criminal activities often increase during the rainy season, as adverse weather conditions are frequently exploited by criminals to target vulnerable communities and households. He therefore called for heightened vigilance and preventive measures to address potential security threats during the period.  \

Speaking on behalf of the host institution, Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Mr. Jeseph J. Senesie, welcomed participants and expressed appreciation to the Ministry and partner agencies for attending the meeting.

Mr. Senesie highlighted key operational activities of the Correctional Service and provided updates on government efforts to improve correctional infrastructure across the country. He revealed that plans are progressing, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Public Assets, to construct a modern correctional facility that will provide improved accommodation and rehabilitation services for inmates.

He described the proposed facility as a significant step toward modernizing the country’s correctional system and improving conditions within correctional institutions.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for heads of various agencies to present updates on their achievements, ongoing challenges, and priority areas requiring attention. Participants engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening institutional coordination and identifying practical solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

The inter-agency meeting concluded with renewed commitments from all participating institutions to deepen collaboration, improve information sharing, and work collectively toward maintaining national security and public safety.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to promote inter-agency cooperation as a key component of its broader strategy to build a more responsive, effective, and resilient security sector in Sierra Leone.
