The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), has officially commissioned a modern Blood Bank and Dental Clinic at the Police Hospital, marking a major milestone in efforts to strengthen healthcare services for police personnel and their families.

The facilities, which were inaugurated on Thursday, June 18, 2026, form part of the Sierra Leone Police’s broader healthcare transformation programme aimed at improving medical care, ensuring a reliable blood supply, and enhancing access to quality dental services for officers and their dependants.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior police officers, including Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sahr Yomba Senesi, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sylvester M. N. Koroma, AIG John Martin Senesie, Director of Operations ACP Allieu Turay, representatives of the Dental Association, officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and members of civil society.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, DIG Sahr Yomba Senesi described the establishment of the Blood Bank and Dental Clinic as a historic achievement for the Sierra Leone Police. He said the project reflects the Police leadership’s commitment to improving the welfare and healthcare of officers who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation.

He noted that the availability of a modern blood bank would enhance emergency medical response within the Police Hospital, while the dental clinic would provide much-needed oral healthcare services, contributing to the overall wellbeing and operational readiness of police personnel.

Representing the Minister of Internal Affairs, Permanent Secretary Edwards Ngaujah commended the Sierra Leone Police leadership for prioritising the health and welfare of its personnel. He said the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s vision of building a professional, efficient, and people-centred police service capable of delivering effective security services across the country.

Speaking during the ceremony, Director of Medical Service, AIG Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Jalloh, disclosed that the project was conceived several years ago as part of the ongoing transformation of the Police Hospital.

He explained that the hospital has evolved from a modest medical inspection room into a fully equipped healthcare facility offering specialised medical services, with the newly commissioned Blood Bank and Dental Clinic representing another significant step in that transformation.

The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon-cutting, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and a guided inspection of the newly commissioned Blood Bank and Dental Clinic by invited guests and senior officials.

The commissioning of the facilities is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery within the Sierra Leone Police, while reinforcing the Government’s commitment to strengthening institutional welfare and enhancing the quality of medical services available to security personnel and their families.
