FLooding in Kambia Disrupts

By Aminata Abu Bakarr Kamara

Residents of Kambia town are grappling with severe flooding that has disrupted daily life, particularly between Kambia 2 Tec-Point and Kambia 1, a stretch of less than one kilometer. The floodwaters have completely submerged the bridge and inundated half of the town, creating significant challenges for both motorists and pedestrians who rely on this crucial route.

According to reports from residents and a video circulated by Ismael Kamara, the situation is dire, as the floodwaters have made it nearly impossible for vehicles, motorbikes, and even pedestrians to navigate the area safely. The inundation of such a central point has not only halted transport but also left many residents stranded, struggling to carry out their daily activities.

Kamara, who reported on the incident in a video, highlighted the severity of the flooding, describing how the bridge and surrounding areas are entirely submerged under several feet of water. The video depicts an alarming scene, with vehicles stalled, motorbikes stuck in the flood, and people wading through the murky water.

Residents are now appealing to the local authorities and the government for immediate assistance to address the issue and prevent further damage. Many have expressed concerns about the health risks posed by stagnant water, as well as the potential for the flooding to worsen in the coming days due to persistent rains.

Kambia town, like many other areas in Sierra Leone, has been hit hard by flooding in recent years, often linked to poor drainage systems and the effects of climate change. While efforts have been made to address the issue, the frequency and intensity of floods continue to pose serious challenges for communities in the region.

As the rains continue, residents of Kambia are left anxiously waiting for relief, hoping that swift action will be taken to restore access to the bridge and prevent further disruption to their lives.
