The Deputy Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh has, on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, recently launched the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy (NACCED) Strategic Plan -2024-2028 and the Open Government Partnership (OGP) 5th National Action Plan at the Parliament Building on Tower Hill.
The Deputy Speaker commended the organizers for promoting civic education in tandem with transparency and accountability. He furthered that Parliament is committed to support the promotion of good governance and democracy, pointing out that there have been lots of developmental strides under the President Bio’s led administration.
While underscoring OGP’s effort, the lawmaker stated that Parliament has enacted several laws for the development of the nation, citing the Gender Act and other related laws.
Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh also cited the transformative strides in the administrative structure of the House of Parliament, noting that Parliament has progressed as, according to him, Section 79 of the country’s Constitution is a clear indication of an open Parliament. “Under the leadership of Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, Parliament will continue to strive,” the fire brand politician stated.
Speaking on repealing Part 5 of the Public Order Act 1965 -Sedious Libel Law, Hon. Conteh stated that Government has demonstrated open government and citizens participation, stressing that one of the policies in the 5th OGP National Action is the commitment in fighting corruption.
Hon. Tawa Conteh reassured that as a Chairperson of the Public Account Committee (PAC) he would ensure that robust action is employed in scrutinizing the Audit Report accordingly while highlighting the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
