Counrt Jails Puopil for Shop Breaking

Sallieu Barrie, a school pupil of Milton Margai Section in Kenema, has been jailed for three years by Justice Abubakarr Sannoh of the High Court in Kenema for shop-breaking and larceny contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to prosecution, the convict Sallieu Barrie on May 6, 2024 at Kenema City, Kenema judicial district in the Eastern province, with intent to steal, broke and entered into the shop of Morie Kamara and stole one Techno Spark 4 mobile phone valued at One Thousand and five hundred New Leones (NLe1,500/00) Property of Kennie Bobor whilst in the custody of Morie Kamara, three big battery itel manual mobile phones valued at One Thousand and Fifty New Leones (NLe 1,050/00) property of Foday Kallon wbhilst in the custody of Morie Kamara, one solar Bluetooth player valued at Two Hundred and Fifty New Leones property of Yatta Momoh whilst in the custody of Morie Kamara, all to the total valued of Two Thousand, Eight Hundred New Leones ( NLe2,800/00).

After the registrar read the charges in English and explained same in krio, the convict pleaded guilty and begged for mercy.

Before his conviction, Justice Abubakarr Sannoh considered the plea of the Convict who did not waste the precious time of the Court as a fist-time offender and a school-going pupil and also the allocutus or statement by the convict as plea mitigation of the Defence Counsel. Justice Sannoh also considered the age of the young man as a school pupil and sent him to a jail term of three years at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kenema effective May 6th, 2024.

The matter was prosecuted by Andrew. F. Kamara, State Counsel and Customary Law Officer in Kenema whilst the convict was represented by two defence counsels, Patrick Kamara of Legal Aid Board in Kenema and Joseph Bandabla Dauda aka JBD who doubled as a Duty Counsel for AdvocAid representing all women and girls who comes in conflict with the Laws of Sierra Leone.
