APC Leadership Meets UN Needs Assessment Mission to Shape 2028 Elections

In a significant engagement for Sierra Leone’s democratic future, the National Leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC) convened with the United Nations Needs Assessment Mission (NAM) at the party’s headquarters in Freetown today, Monday, June 16, 2025, this meeting underscores a critical step toward ensuring transparent governance.

The APC delegation was headed by Deputy National Chairman, Amb. Alhaji Dr. Osman Foday Yansaneh, and included National Secretary General Comrade Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya, National Publicity Secretary Comrade Sidie Yayah Tunis, Deputy Minority Leader 1 in Parliament Comrade Daniel Koroma, Legal Advisor Comrade Lawyer Africanus Sorie Sesay, Financial Secretary Comrade Osman Jalloh, President of the APC Women’s Congress Comrade Mariama Lowe Bangura, President of the APC National Young Congress Comrade Ansu Barnard, and other national officers, the UN NAM featured representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), the ECOWAS Political Advisor, and various development partners.

Discussions focused on implementing the Tripartite Committee Report’s recommendations, pivotal for free, fair, and transparent 2028 elections. The APC reaffirmed its dedication to this process as essential to democratic advancement, acknowledging the UN’s ongoing support for the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), human rights, good governance, rule of law, and consistent judicial interpretation.

Comrade Dumbuya welcomed the delegation, apologizing for the absence of National Chairman Comrade Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray due to health issues, conveying his unwavering commitment to national aspirations. Amb. Dr. Yansaneh then led the talks, asserting the APC’s readiness to engage in lawful processes while firmly opposing any unconstitutional actions by the current administration.

The meeting ended with a shared commitment to uphold the Tripartite Report’s democratic framework, a promising sign as Sierra Leone approaches 2028.
