The Sierra Leone Powerlifting Federation has successfully conducted its presidential election, marking a significant step in the development and administration of the sport in the country. The election programme brought together sports authorities, media personalities, athletes, and other key stakeholders who witnessed the democratic process.
The event was characterized by calls for unity, commitment, and dedication among members of the federation as they work towards advancing powerlifting in Sierra Leone.
Speaking during the programme, Mr. Idrissa Massaquoi of the National Olympic Committee under the Ministry of Sports emphasized the importance of responsibility and seriousness in sports administration. He urged members of the federation to remain committed to their duties and to work with dedication in promoting the growth of powerlifting across the country.
Mr. Massaquoi highlighted the need for strong leadership and teamwork within the federation. He stressed that unity among athletes, officials, and administrators would be essential in achieving the federation’s goals and ensuring sustainable development of the sport.
He further encouraged members to remain focused on their responsibilities and to uphold the values of discipline, professionalism, and cooperation. According to him, commitment and dedication are key ingredients for success in any sporting organization.
Also addressing the gathering was Mr. Steven Keifala, Director of Participation in Sport, who echoed similar sentiments regarding unity and commitment. He encouraged athletes and officials to remain active and committed to developing their talents and abilities.
Mr. Keifala advised members of the federation to take their sporting careers seriously and make the most of opportunities available to them. He stressed the importance of regular training and hard work, noting that success in powerlifting can only be achieved through determination and consistent effort.
He further encouraged athletes to strengthen the spirit of teamwork and maintain unity within the federation. According to him, a united federation will be better positioned to achieve its objectives and attract greater opportunities for growth and development.
The Director of Sport, Haron Korjie, also addressed participants during the programme. He called for peace and harmony within the sporting community and emphasized that there should be no conflicts or unnecessary disputes in sports.
Mr. Korjie commended the efforts of the Sierra Leone Powerlifting Federation and appreciated the work being done to promote the sport. He encouraged members to continue demonstrating seriousness and commitment in all their activities.
He noted that discipline and mutual respect are important values that should guide the actions of every athlete and official. He further assured stakeholders of continued support for initiatives aimed at strengthening sports development in the country.
The highlight of the programme was the announcement of the election results, which saw Abdul Rahman Sesay emerge victorious as the newly elected President of the Sierra Leone Powerlifting Federation.
Mr. Sesay secured a total of 55 votes to win the presidency and received congratulations from stakeholders present at the event. His election was welcomed by members of the federation, who expressed optimism about the future direction of the organization under his leadership.
Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Mr. Sesay expressed gratitude to members of the federation for the confidence they had placed in him. He described his election as a great honour and pledged to work tirelessly for the advancement of powerlifting in Sierra Leone.
“I am very happy to be elected as President of the Sierra Leone Powerlifting Federation,” he said. “I am committed to working together with the entire team to promote the development of the sport and create better opportunities for our athletes.”
The newly elected president outlined several priorities for his administration, including the establishment of a new office for the federation. He said the move would help improve the administration and operations of the organization.
Mr. Sesay also pledged to promote unity among all members and strengthen the federation’s structures to ensure greater effectiveness and progress. He called on athletes, officials, and stakeholders to work together as one team in order to improve the federation and achieve common goals.
In addition, he promised to pursue more opportunities for athletes and the federation, with a focus on enhancing participation, improving standards, and creating pathways for growth at both national and international levels.
The successful conduct of the election has been widely viewed as a positive development for powerlifting in Sierra Leone. Stakeholders expressed hope that the new leadership will build on existing achievements and help elevate the sport to greater heights.
As the federation begins a new chapter under the leadership of President Abdul Rahman Sesay, many believe that unity, dedication, and collective effort will be vital in driving the growth and success of powerlifting across the country.
