Olushogo David, the Executive Secretary of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), has said the commission doesn’t have smaller political parties as often described by people, noting all that political parties are registered equally as provided for by law.
Speaking at the recent government’s weekly press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conferences room on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Mr David noted that political parties in the country pay equal fee for registration and that they have constituents which they represent.
According to PPRC’s executive Secretary, all political parties that are registered under the commission have equal rights and responsibilities, adding that opposition political parties have a crucial role to play such as checkmating the incumbent government. “They bring out issues to the government that they feel is good for national development,” he said, but noted that some people are of the view that opposition parties are just there to talk, saying political parties can also bring out positive solutions to government.
Speaking on the topic, “Do minorities matters? Role of small parties and under-presented groups in our political system”, Olushogo David stated that all registered political parties are children of the commission hence the PPRC treats them equally, saying that is the reason they as a commission creates the space for all political parties to maintain and enhance inclusive governance.
He emphasized that it doesn’t mean if a political party is not represented in elected positions they are not useful, adding all parties are important.
