Inhumane Treatment of Minor at Grassfield

By Josephine Sesay

In a distressing incident of child abuse on September 4th, 2024, at Grassfield, Salifu Kamara, a young boy, was brutally beaten by his father after he left a stone-mining site due to exhaustion. The incident is said to have occurred when Salifu left the site due to fatigue and sought rest in a nearby place. Upon his return, his father allegedly inflicted severe injuries upon him. Salifu, who is believed to be underage for such labour, was discovered with numerous injuries across his back.

Witnesses have expressed shock and outrage at the severity of the abuse, prompting calls for immediate intervention and justice.

Children, seen as precious gifts from God, deserve to be treated with care and compassion, not subjected to harsh punishment and exploitation. The brutality inflicted on Salifu highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement of child protection laws and greater awareness about the rights and well-being of children.

Awareness raising on child violence and enforcing laws relating to same is crucial in protecting children from such harmful practices. Government and child advocacy organizations should be more robust with interventions to address such menace.
