In Sierra Leone, communities and nationwide, the increase of Kush among young people has sparked a troubling trend that threatens to undermine the future of our youth. What was once viewed as a recreational substance has morphed into a catalyst for devastating consequences, leaving a trail of shattered dreams and lost potential in its wake.
Kush, with its potent THC levels, poses unique dangers to adolescent development.
According to Mrs Musu Sesay ” This Kush have turned our children lives upside down and many youths have turned their backs on their educational goals, this have not only destroyed their personal growth but also diminished their prospects for the future of this country”.
Abdul Rahman Kamara one of the Kush addicts says he really wants to stop taking it but ever since he started taking it have become difficult for him not to take it even for a day, especially when he feels depressed.
According to Mr Michael Conteh ” I have two sons and I have lost my first son due to this Kush,it really painful as parents to lost your child at an early age which should be in the other way around. He also stated that this Kush has destroy half of Sierra Leone youths today what will happen in the future where our children who we are looking up to,to take care of us at our old age have strongly involved in it.
The residents of Consider Lane community are calling on to government to take urgent attention and concerted action together, restore hope for our children and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow for Mama Salone.
