Media guru celebrates his birthday (June 6th)

 

Birthdays at times give the opportunity to reflect on the past experiences (good/bad) and most importantly, they could be seen as a moment of meditating about the good things the Almighty Allah has done for you and people around.

Many a time, people missed the way how to celebrate it and instead, they could be in the habit of consuming all kinds of food including the consumption illegal substance like drugs. However, there are others who understand and know exactly the importance of reflection.

On June 6th years back, a child was given birth to in Lungi. Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom. Today and among other things, he is a distinguished media personality, professional, lecturer and consultant. He is someone that has impacted many lives and counting.

He is Sheku Putka Kamara (SPK) mostly called Putka or Sheku P. He is is an Academic, Journalist and a Media Communications Lecturer and a Consultant. Growing up in Lungi, Putka did his primary education at the DEC Kasongha Lungi (Classes 1-6) and sat to the NPSE in 2003 and a founding pupil of the St. Joseph Secondary School, Masoila Lungi (JSS 1-3) where he sat to the BECE in 2006/7.

As someone who is very passionate about education, after graduation from junior high, Kamara proceeded to the St. Augustine Senior Secondary School, Tintafor Lungi (SSS1-3) and sat his WASSCE in 2010/11 and later gained admission to study Mass Communication at Fourah Bay College in 2011 and graduated in 2015 with a First Class Bachelors of Arts Hons Degree. He furthered his Master’s Degree in Mass Communication at FBC in 2016/17.

Since then, Putka/Sheku P has gained huge experiences by working for both print and broadcast mediums in Sierra Leone (from a volunteer to the most Senior of Media Positions). Examples include, Radio Mount Aureole, CTN FM 107.3, Capitol Times Newspaper, Front Page Newspaper, Sierra News Newspaper, Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) and he is a contributor for several other newspapers where his LEGENDARY COLUMN articles are widely published and circulated on newspapers, websites, pages and blogs. He was also a Lecturer and Principal Lecturer at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) – Faculty of Communication, Media and Broadcasting (FCMB).

He served as Lecturer and Director of Marketing at the then Canadian University of Modern Technology, now Central University in Mile 91, Tonkolili District and has also Lectured at the East Freetown International College (EFICO).

Sheku Putka Kamara served as the Director of Operations for LAKE Production, a Media, Marketing and Entertainment.

His love for education cannot be over emphasized especially in impacting knowledge to others, he finds pleasure in teaching. This is manifested in his numerous online Lectures (WhatsApp, Personal Blog and Facebook Page, Facebook and YouTube), where he dedicates time, energy and resources to create the necessary impact and to add up to existing knowledge.

Mr. Kamara is also a Consultant and Researcher for the National Council for Technical, Vocational and Other Academic Awards (NCTVA) where he has been serving as the National Mass Communication Examiner for years now, he also doubles as the then Communications Officer for the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) in Bo currently serves as the National Senior Communications Officer of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) at the Head Office in Freetown.

Sheku is a writer and researcher per excellence who continues to mentor students and young people in the subregion who believes that all persons have a role to play in making society a better and livelier place for all and sundry. As a result of this belief, Sheku and his three sons are all members of the DAQVAH Charity Foundation, where they all make monthly contributions and other commitments to help the less privileged and needy in society.

The media guru serves as the current Managing Editor of the Expo Times Newspaper and the Expo Magazine and a Lecturer at the Faculty of Communication, Media and Information Studies, Department of Communication and Public Relations, formerly the Mass Communication Department at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He is also the Examination Coordinator of the same faculty at FBC.

This article is not meant to explain his work and achievement. The intent is to just celebrate and appreciate him while he is still alive. As such, as we try to celebrate him today and always, it is also important to note that, some of the major characteristics of Sheku Putka Kamara is his ability to discern and expatiate every subject matter in line with his specialties, much to the admiration of all and sundry.

With that being said, I just want to use this honor to wish you, Sheku Putka Kamara a happy birthday and all that life has to offer. Indeed, meeting at Expo Times was never a mistake as I did not regret same. I profusely thank Dr. Ibrahim Seaga Shaw for the opportunity.
