Ex-Officer Arrested for impersonation

By Sulaiman Jalloh

Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on Sunday, May 5, 2024, arrested an ex-police officer named Ibrahim Alex Kamara, previously known as PC 19509 Kamara I.A for impersonation.

According to police update, the arrested impersonator worked at the Bonema Police Post in the Waterloo Division, east end of the country’s capital, Freetown. Police say Kamara is currently being investigated by the Complaint Discipline Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) of the Freetown-East Regional Headquarters for impersonation. Police furthered that he was dismissed from duty in February 2024 due to being absent from work for more than twenty-one days without any legal justifications and other disciplinary-related charges.

According to police information, since March 2024, PC 19509 Kamara I.A has been impersonating being active serving member of the force to the public. “However, his luck ran out when he was arrested by some community members who then handed him over to the police for further investigation,” police say in a statement.

Richard Tommy, the Acting Regional CDIID Coordinator of Freetown-East, urged all serving members of the police force to follow the instructions of the Disciplinary Regulations of 2001 as guiding principles for professional policing.
