Labour Minister Mediates Bike Riders'impasse

Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mr. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, on Wednesday, 24th April, 2024, facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between opponents in the forthcoming election of executive members of the Sierra Leone Commercial Motorbike Riders’ Union.

This comes after one of the two popular factions in the union politics wrote a letter to the Minister requesting his mediation in issues affecting the union ahead of their elections in May.

After long discussions, it was agreed that the parties, together with the Union’s Board of Trustees, should all sign an MoU, committing them to free, fair and violence-free elections next month.

After the singing, the Minister reminded the Union contenders and their supporters to bear in mind the progress of the Union as they campaign and vote.

He admonished them to uphold peace and unity within their groups for national development.
